At POD Carpentry and Joinery, we recently completed a handcrafted oak porch for a client in Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire.

The porch was constructed using traditional oak joinery techniques, with every joint hand-cut and expertly fitted.

One of the most interesting challenges on this project was the roof design, which required a seamless transition from a 35-degree apex into a 22-degree pitch. Our team approached this with precision, ensuring the finished result was structurally sound and visually striking.

We wanted to replace the dated, squeaky carpeted stairs with a solid oak staircase that was in keeping with the original style of our home. From the very beginning, Dave's approach was exemplary. He did an amazing job of understanding our requirements, explaining the entire process, and providing a proposal with a clear pricing and payment schedule. His execution was flawless. Dave pre-ordered all the materials, and the new oak was a perfect match for our existing flooring. He was incredibly skilled in tackling the challenges of an old house, including the removal of the old lime plaster. While this created a lot of dust (as we expected), Dave was meticulous in cleaning everything up afterwards. Throughout the installation, he was also very flexible, accommodating our need to prepare the area for decoration. The transformation is stunning. We have gone from a creaky, dated staircase to a beautiful, solid, and silent one that has enhanced the character of our home.
